We're joined in the studio by a professional musician blowing his trumpet on the German jazz scene, as well as discovering a new breed of German university-goer. In this week's edition of Generation Change, we meet a young mother in Brazil coordinating emergency relief for those who lost everything when their shantytown was destroyed by fire.
Production: Jessie Wingard
A new breed of university-goer is emerging across Germany. Mandatory civil and military service was abolished in Germany last year, meaning 17-year-olds can now, for the first time, attend college.

Shantytowns are illegal in Brazil, with the government providing no assistance to those living there. When fire swept though their community, 27-year-old Alessandra, immediately began co-ordinating emergency relief for those who lost everything.
Jazz music is not usually part of a young person's repertoire when they first pick up an instrument, but for Michael Kuhl, being part of a big band was what he always wanted to do.
